Mahogany Forest 2

2004

"Mahogany Forest 2" depicts an expanse of road on Cherry Tree Hill,, shrouded on either side by mahogany trees. The artist employed photographic techniques such as an intentional composition that leads the gaze of the viewer down the road gradually towards the bottom left hand corner of the image, as well as a play on light contrast and the texture of the tree branches to create a rhythmic pattern. Although the scene speaks to a sense of serenity in the empty road, it can also be read as a commentary on wealth, given the value of mahogany.
