Christopher and the Wind Chimes

1969

Captured in "Christopher and Wind Chimes" is an interpretation of a classic mother and child scene. A mother lovingly lifts her child and watches as he reaches out to the moving wind chimes hung from a wooden beam above them. The print is bold, graphic, and flat, and suggests the influence of Japanese prints. Donawa is best known for woodcuts, which often included children, and skillfully makes use of the wood grain to further emphasize the upward movement of the figures in the scene.
